Louis Vuitton Smartwatch – Tambour Horizon

Luxury fashion brand, Louis Vuitton has launched its first smartwatch, the Tambour Horizon, a drum-shaped device. The watch, which is part of its Tambour collection, runs on Google’s Android operating system.

Louis Vuitton is the latest among luxury brands to join in the business of creating wearable technology. Speaking on this, Louis Vuitton chairman and chief executive Michael Burke says, “We don’t know where the industry of connected objects is going, but we know it’s going to be massive. You can either sit on the sidelines and observe, or you can dive in and be an actor.”

The Vuitton smartwatch comes in three case styles and it can be customized with sixty interchangeable strap options and different downloadable watch faces. Speaking on the details of the smartwatch, Burke told BoF, “It’s the first time ever that a connected watch will be launched worldwide and will function in China and in the rest of the world,”

This watch is coming about two years after Apple launched its first smartwatch. Also, it is coming behind other luxury brands like Tag Heuer and Bulgari who have already launched their own smartwatches.

Luxury smartwatches haven’t really caught on as most people seem to be more comfortable sticking to tech companies for their wearable technology. This can be seen in the fact that Apple still remains the dominant player when it comes to smartwatches. It remains to be seen if and how that will change.

One thing to know is that this designer smartwatch doesn’t come cheap – it has been priced between $2, 500 and $3, 000.
