Residents of Owolewa, Agege, Lagos State, say they are ready to work with the police in tackling crime in the community.
They said the partnership was informed by past robbery attacks on the neighbouhood, noting that proactive measures would be put in place to forestall a recurrence.
The spokesperson for the community, Mr. Mujeeb Abaja, said this at a meeting with the Divisional Police Officer, Elere Police Station, which covers the community.
Abaja, in a statement on Saturday, added that the community would seek the help of other security agencies to beef up security.
He said, “We have had several cases of armed robbery in our area in the past. We employed the service of the local vigilantes, but there is limitation to what they can do. That is why we are calling on the Elere Divisional Police Officer to join us in crime fighting.”
The treasurer of the community, Ibrahim Ayuba, urged the residents to be security conscious and warned the youth against conniving with criminals.
The DPO, Mrs. Reginal Achum, said the meeting would go a long way in preventing crime.
She enjoined Awawa cult members to renounce cultism and surrender their arms adding that Agege had produced many eminent people.
She said, “I need your support to fight crime. The police cannot be everywhere. That is why I am here to preach community policing partnership to you.”
The DPO inaugurated stickers for both commercial and private cars from the community to prevent security breach.
