A former Governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, has said Nigeria cannot be described as a federation while running a unitary system of government.
Jang, who is also the senator representing Plateau North and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, stated this during an interview with journalists at his Jos residence.
He blamed the military for foisting on the country “a unitary constitution to be operated in a federal system of government,” adding that the constitution “is why nothing is working.”
According to him, for Nigeria to run a federal system of government, it should be run properly through restructuring because federalism and unitary system of government “don’t work together.”
He said, “I am an apostle and disciple of restructuring of Nigeria because we cannot be calling ourselves a federation, and yet, we are running a unitary system of government. The two don’t work together; so, if we want to run a federal system of government, we should run it properly.”
