The police in Nasarawa State have arrested a suspected kidnapper for allegedly killing a police sergeant, Tom Mohammed, during a failed abduction of an expatriate in the Toto Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the arrest in a telephone interview with Northern City News in Lafia, on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Idirisu Kennedy, stated that detectives were on the trail of other suspects.
He said, “The command has already arrested one of the kidnappers last week and efforts have been intensified to ensure other members of the kidnappers are apprehended.”
Findings by our correspondent revealed that the late police officer was gunned down during an exchange of gunfire with the criminals.
It was gathered that the deceased, with Force Number F/No. 344862, was with a team investigating a kidnapping case at about 7:30am in Nassarawa Toto Local Government Area when they were attacked by the kidnappers.
It was further learnt that one of the kidnappers was gunned down during the exchange of fire.
A source said, “After the incident, Sgt Tom Mohammed was discovered to be missing in action. A combined team of Intelligence Response Team and Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad operatives combed the forest and eventually found his bullet-ridden body.”
