Obiano sworn in for second term, promises transformation

Tony Okafor

Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, on Saturday, vowed to fight crime, saying there would be no hiding place for criminals in the state.

Obiano said this in Awka, the Anambra State capital, when he and his deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke, were sworn in for a second term in office.

The governor was re-elected on November 18, 2017, on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance. He scored a total vote of 234,071, defeating Dr. Tony Nwoye of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 98,752.

Anambra State Chief Judge, Justice Peter Umeadi, administered the oath of office to them around 12.30pm on Saturday.

Obiano said, “I’m determined to make Anambra State the safest state in the country and the best investment destination.”

The governor said he would set up state-of-the-art hospitals in the three senatorial districts of the state while assuring the people that major roads in Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka would be fixed.

He promised to encourage small and medium enterprises in the state to boost economic powers of the people, while promising to complete the state airport at Umeri, in Anambra East Local Government Area of the state.

The archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, said the opening prayers on the occasion.

The Chairman of the Obiano swearing-in committee, Mr. Ifeany Ibezi, in his remarks, described Obiano as a “legacy governor”.

He enjoined the people of the state to continue to give the governor their support and cooperation.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was represented by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, at the ceremony.

Others were Ebonyi State governor, Dave Umahi; and his Enugu, Delta and Ekiti counterparts, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi,  Ifeanyi Okowa and  Ayo Fayose respectively.
