Ted Odogwu, Kano
The Kano State Government and the state police command on Thursday dispelled the rumour that terrorists were planning to attack and abduct pupils in schools in the state.
Our correspondent learnt that parents and guardians immediately rushed to several primary and secondary schools to evacuate their children, following the rumour of abduction.
But the Kano State Government dispelled the rumour.
The state Commissioner for Information, Mallam Muhammad Garba, said the rumour was being peddled by unpatriotic and heartless people, in order to create chaos and tension in the state.
He described the rumour as baseless, unfounded and urged residents to disregard it and go about their normal business.
Also, the police spokesperson, SP Musa Magaji Majiya, said, “The attention of the Kano State Police Command has been drawn to a rumour, currently circulating on the social media that the state government has ordered the immediate closure of all schools for fear of attack. I wish to inform parents and stakeholders in the education sector that the information is untrue, orchestrated by mischief-makers to cause pandemonium.”
