Femi Makinde, Osogbo
The Provost of the Osun State College of Education, Ilesa, Prof. Kolawole Kazeem, has said the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing has expressed its readiness to build 100 housing units inside the campus of the institution.
The provost said this in Ilesa at a press conference, which was one of the activities to celebrate the 40th Founder’s Day of the college, which was established when Osun State was still part of the old Oyo State.
Kazeem noted that the college had enough land for the project, which he said would ease accommodation problems among its workers, adding that some of them, who had been shuttling between Ilesa and Osogbo, the Osun State capital, would now have decent accommodation on the campus.
He stated, “The Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing approached us and told us that they would like to build 100 units of housing here. This is a good news and it will assist us in solving accommodation problems among workers.
“We have more than enough land for the project and we believe that this will prompt our workers to even work harder because they will not need to battle accommodation problems again.
“The current management is making efforts at building hostels for students, and in the nearest future, many staff quarters will be provided.
“New recreational facilities will also be provided at the staff club and this will afford the academic and those in the administrative cadres opportunities for recreation. “
Kazeem lamented the poor conditions of most houses where the students lived outside the campus, saying the college would do everything possible to ensure that the students and workers started living in decent environment in order to enhance their comfort and productivity.
In order to make the roads inside the campus motorable, the provost said the college needed the help of old student and well-wishers to enable it embark on the reconstruction of the roads as well as the landscaping to make the campus more beautiful.
He lauded the past provosts of the school and the Governing Council headed by Dr. Adeniyi Adedeji, who he said had been instrumental to the infrastructural development in the college.
