PDP, a lion woken from sleep, says Fayose

FEMI MAKINDE

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has berated the All Progressives Congress, saying the ruling party is no match for the Peoples Democratic Party in the forthcoming governorship poll in the state and the 2019 general elections in the country.

Fayose, who spoke in Osogbo during the PDP South-West zonal rally on Saturday, described the party as a sleeping lion that had been roused.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, the governor was quoted as saying that whoever emerged the APC candidate for the Ekiti election would be defeated by the PDP’s candidate.

“Nigerians have seen the deceit called the APC and their failed government. They can see the difference. The PDP is a lion that has been woken from sleep.

“We are taking over at the federal level next year and by the grace of God, we are winning the Ekiti governorship election. We have done well in the running of the state and our continuity agenda stands firm.

“When we defeated the APC in all the 16 local government areas of the state in 2014, they went to town with lies. Now, their party is in control at the federal level; we are waiting for the excuse they will give, as they will suffer another humiliating defeat,” he said.

Similarly, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and the National Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, urged Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic background or religious belief, to unite with them to rescue the nation from the alleged misrule by the APC.

Atiku said indicators in the polity showed that the time was ripe for the opposition to rise up on behalf of Nigerians to take back the nation from what he described as “the voyage of destruction”, which he said the ruling APC was taking Nigeria on.

He added, “The process for a better Nigeria has started today in Osogbo. The PDP, more than ever before, is poised to take Nigeria out of poverty, penury and despondency. But we need to unite against all forms of divisions currently threatening the peace of the country.”

Atiku, who is a presidential aspirant, stated that the PDP would “reposition the country on a true path to peace and prosperity via restructuring and the strengthening of critical national institutions of government, when it returns to power next year.”

According to him, the alleged tyrannical attitude being used against democratic institutions like the National Assembly and the opposition will not save the ruling APC from Nigerian voters, who he said had been on the receiving end of misrule since 2015 and were determined to put an end to it.

Secondus also charged the people of Osun State to use their permanent voter cards to vote out the APC and save Nigeria’s democracy. He stated that all hands must be on deck to get this done.

The PDP chairman said, “No amount of antics and harassment will discourage us because we are doing the desires of Nigerians.

“The APC government has destroyed this country and made life meaningless; we have no alternative but to kick them out.”

On the occasion, the PDP chairman received defectors from the ruling APC in the state, including Alhaji Fatai Diekola.

A former Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, also called on the people of Osun to join millions of other Nigerians to vote Buhari out of office, saying the PDP would restore hope to despondent Nigerians.

Other PDP leaders in attendance were former Governors Gbenga Daniel, Rashidi Ladoja, Aliyu Babangida and Sule Lamido, among others.
