In a statement made available to IGBERE TV by
Patrick Itumo, Public Relations Officer, said
The management regrets the inconveniences caused by the technical hitches during the said examination which led to delays and crowding of the center.
He, however, maintained that no life was lost and thanked the Governor David Nweze Umahi who brought the situation under control.
The statement reads,
"The Management of Ebonyi State University has noted with concern, the unfortunate incident which took place during the GST examinations on Wednesday, February 10, 2021."
"Management regrets the inconveniences caused by the technical hitches during the said examination which led to delays and crowding of the center.. However, we are grateful to God that no live was lost in the process.
The university Authorities has noted the issues raised by the students and assures all concerned that they will be addressed as soon as possible."
"We equally regret the subsequent protests by students of the university who barricaded the Abakaliki-Enugu Highway and obstructed vehicular movements for several hours. EBSU management offers our unreserved and deep apologies to the general public and travelers who were affected in one way or the other."
"Management deeply appreciates the prompt intervention of the state Governor, His Excellency, Engr, Chief David Umahi, through the Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Barr. Eric Kelechi Igwe, who brought the situation under control. We equally thank the Secretary to Ebonyi State Government, Dr. Kenneth Ugbala: the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Dr. Onyebuchi Chima and the Commissioner for Border peace and Internal Security, Stanley Okoro Emegha for their initial rapid response.
We are also grateful to the Security Agencies, the Director of State Security Services, Ebonyi state Command as well as the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, Mr. Garba Aliyu and his officers and men for their mature and civilized conduct during the protest.
