Osogbo — The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has sensitised vulnerable groups in Osun, particularly people with special needs, women and children on their rights.
The sensitisation was facilitated by a member of the National Assembly representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency, Professor Mojeed Alabi.
The legislator said the sensitisation was aimed at enlightening the vulnerable groups in his constituency to make them aware of their rights and be able to defend themselves so as not to be oppressed perpetually.
The sensitisation programme was attended by people with special needs, secondary school students, women and other groups drawn from all parts of the constituency.
Professor Alabi said if this set of people know their rights and are encouraged to defend their rights, they would be bold to seek justice through legal instruments when necessary.
The guest speakers, Mr. Akudo Moses Okoh and Olaniyi Omodara enjoined women and children as the most vulnerable, to always demand for their rights. The resource persons highlighted different avenues and means through which citizens could seek redress when oppressed.
Alabi, in his remarks, said he wanted to ensure that his constituents are well informed of their rights so that they can be able to challenge any abuse or infringement at the appropriate quarters without much persuasion.
Charging Nigerians to always vote for credible, reliable, accessible and God- fearing politicians into office, he said: “They should instead cast their votes for worthy candidates who are passionate about serving their people.”
The participants lauded Professor Alabi for deeming it fit to organise the sensitisation programme for the benefit of the citizens.
