UGHELLI—THE five staff of Sahara Energy Oil who were kidnapped at Ajoki community near Koko, Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, have regained their freedom after spending 19 days in captivity.

The workers, Kali Agbai, Henry Oha, Henry Eruorhboro, Olajide R.A and Akihumi, were kidnapped on January 17 by a gang of gunmen suspected to be militants operating in the area.

Confirming their release to Vanguard yesterday, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Aniamaka, when contacted, said: “I do not have details of the matter but they have been released. I will  get back to you if I get more details.”

However, a source at the company’s public relations department told Vanguard that the company  was forced to pay N50 million for the release of the victims.

The source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “The company was compelled to negotiate with the kidnappers who had earlier demanded N200 million for the five workers.

“But an agreement was reached for N50 million to facilitate their release.”
