There is no doubt that singer, Kenny Saint Best, has benefited from the success of her elder brother, Kenny Ogungbe. At a time, she was even signed to Kennis Music, which was co-owned by him.
However, she told Sunday Scoop that being Kenny Ogungbe’s younger sister comes with certain disadvantages. KSB said, “When I joined the music industry, it was not easy to convince people that I was talented. They felt that my brother had a hand in everything I was doing. People didn’t give me credit for music; they only knew me as Kenny Ogungbe’s younger sister. It was as if I didn’t deserve any credibility as an artiste.
“Anywhere I visited, they would address me as Baba Keke’s sister. I didn’t like that at all.To get to where I am today, I had to prove myself to the world. I needed to work harder. I didn’t want to ride on my brother’s hard work. I thank God I was able to earn people’s respect in the long run.”
She also stated that until she got the Channel O Music Video Awards nomination in 2010 for her song, Turn me Around, in which she featured Da Grin, she didn’t think she was doing serious music. “I started taking myself seriously as an artiste when I got a nomination at Channel O Music Video Awards. I didn’t think it was a big deal until we got to Johannesburg and my name was among the best female musicians in Africa. Though Mo’cheddah eventually won that particular award, it was an awesome moment for me. The truth is that younger ones always get these awards,” she said.
