An Osun Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday reserved hearing on a bail application against two men who allegedly conspired and stole catfish worth N300,000 from a pond.
In a ruling, the Magistrate, Mr. Olalekan Ijiyode, said he reserved hearing on the bail application till April 11 because of the way the defendants ‘misbehaved to the court’.
Ijiyode remanded the accused in prison custody pending hearing on the bail application.
He also ordered the defence counsel to submit a written application for consideration of their bail.
The defendants, Tope Aremu,25; and Taiwo Omoniyi, 22; are facing a two-count of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Seargent Sunday Osanyintuyi, alleged that the accused committed the offences between February 10 and March 5 at 12:00 p.m. at Alaran Layout, Ajebamidele, Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi told the court that the defendants conspired and entered into the pond of the complainant, Ronke Oduwole, and stole the catfish.
The offences, he said, contravened Sections 383, 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Law of Osun State, 2002.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The defence counsel, Miss Mariam Lai-Ibrahim, had applied for bail of the accused in the most liberal terms.
She pledged that her clients would not jump bail and would produce reliable sureties.
