Eight persons murdered in London in seven days

Police have launched another murder investigation today after the eighth killing in London in just one week.

A man in his early 20s was stabbed in a fight at the Stratford Centre in east London at 9.30pm last night. Paramedics couldn’t save him and he died from his injuries at 10.30pm.

The attacks follow a worrying spate of violence across London in the past seven days. Officers have arrested three men in connection with a fatal stabbing in Southall, west London, on Monday.

The 48-year-old man from Slough took himself to hospital with a serious stab wound just after 5pm, but he died less than an hour later.

Police arrested two men, aged 24 and 19, in West Drayton, Middlesex, and a 32-year-old man in Southall on suspicion of murder.

A 23-year-old man who was stabbed and shot to death in Enfield on Saturday has been named as Russell Jordan Jones.

Lyndon Davis, 18, who played football for Dagenham United, was stabbed just yards from his front door in Chadwell Heath, east London, last Wednesday. Walthamstow in east London has seen two murders in the space of six days.

Joseph Williams-Torres, 20, died on his way to hospital after he was shot in a car in Essex Close on Wednesday. A 15-year-old boy has been charged with his murder.

Less than two miles away, a man in his 40s was stabbed to death in Vallentin Road on Monday. A 36-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with his murder.

On Sunday, a man in his 30s was killed at a hotel in Hounslow, and a 37-year-old man was stabbed to death on a towpath along the River Lea in Hackney.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said tackling serious violence and knife crime in London remains a number one priority. “But Londoners need to pull together to tackle this issue,” the spokesman added.

“From community weapon sweeps, proactive operations that happen daily and engagement with schools, Metropolitan Police officers are working 24 hours a day, 365 days a year as part of our firm commitment to reducing knife crime among young people.

“We need to find out why some young people think it is acceptable to carry knives, and this is where community organisations and local initiatives, charities, schools and educators, youth workers and families all have an important role to play in changing this mindset.”
