Over 20 people were injured when students of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti and commercial motorcyclists clashed on Tuesday.
Trouble began when a student and a commercial motorcyclist had a disagreement over transport fare.
A source said the commercial motorcyclist slapped the student and that led to a fight between them, which the other students latched into.
“The students had been angry over what they see as their exploitation by the commercial motorcyclists and sundry business operators in the community,” the source added.
Many of the students were stranded on campus as they could not leave because of the tension created by the fight.
It was learnt that the commercial motorcyclists mobilised against the students, which further heightened tension in the town.
According to the Public Relations Officer of FUOYE, Mr. Godfrey Bakji, the injured students had been treated at the university’s health centre and discharged.
