The Chief Imam of Senchi community in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Alhaji Mode Senchi, has regained his freedom, after being taken away for seven days by some kidnappers.
Senchi, who was kidnapped on March 18, was released after a week in captivity following intense pressure by policemen from the Kebbi State police command.
The Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, Ibrahim Kabiru, told Northern City News on the phone on Sunday, that no ransom was paid by the victim’s family, noting that Senchi had been reunited with his family.
He explained that this was the second time the cleric would be abducted by criminal elements in the area, adding that he was earlier rescued by the police which killed two of his abductors during the operation and arrested the third suspect.
The CP said, “Senchi was released by his abductors following intense pressure mounted by officers of the Kebbi State police command. This was the second time he was being kidnapped.
“The first time was in the late 2016 and the police rescued him, killing two of his abductors and arresting one, who is in still in the prison custody. He was given police protection but he later dispensed with them. We also recovered N13m ransom from his abductors,” he added.
Kabiru disclosed that the police were on the trail of the suspects, assuring that they would soon be apprehended to face the law.
He also disclosed that the command arrested three suspected armed robbers on March 28 with three locally-made guns, adding that investigation had commenced into the matter.
The commissioner advised the parents and guardians to monitor closely their children, especially minors while sending them on errand, either in the day or night.
